Tipsy’s Liquor World

December 1, 2009

The largest liquor store I have ever been to.  Located in Littleton, CO just off of C-470 and Bowles. It’s 87,000 square feet of nothing but alcohol. Anything you could think of they have.  This liquor store has two restaurants inside, Pickles Deli and Twigs Wine Bar.  Also right in the middle of the store they had a tasting area with a sitting area, a piano and a massive fire-place. Something else they had that was pretty cool was a number of mannequins outfitted like customers and security guards.  They were so realistic.  I ran into a security guard and even said “excuse me” when he didn’t move or respond I realized he was fake.  Totally freaked me out! He even had eyes that sparkled and his hands almost felt real. They actually felt like a dead persons hand.  Wild!

We picked up the usual booze of choice, Tanqueray for DK and Bud Select for me. My sister Anna also grabbed some beer and a bottle of Mead. She had read about this Mead made in Boulder, Redstone Meadery,  and it had tons of great reviews. So she said.

Mead:

It is so ancient a beverage that the linguistic root for mead, medhu, is the same in all Indo-European languages where it encompasses an entire range of meanings, which include honey, sweet, intoxicating, drunk and drunkenness. For this reason it has been suggested that fermented honey may be the oldest form of alcohol known to man.

The bottle she selected was Vanilla Beans and Cinnamon Sticks Mountain Honey Wine made with honey, vanilla beans and cinnamon. Sounds good, right? Well let me tell you, I am not sure where Anna read these great reviews she kept talking about, but I’ll tell you something, those reviews had to be wrong.  This drink tasted nothing like honey, nothing like vanilla and I sure as hell didn’t taste any cinnamon. What it did taste like was green olive juice with a twist of vinegar and a splash of ass.  The only thing that wasn’t bad was the smell. It smelt like tea and honey. So now I know smells can be deceiving.

A splash of ass – made me laugh out loud.
