Dick’s Old Hood

September 21, 2009

Sunday Andrew played his second football game in South Omaha, about six blocks from where Dick grew up. It was a great day for football, and they (Mustangs) won 14-0. Andrew had a great game, he even scored a two point conversion! Interestingly enough, Andrew played on the same football field where Dick blew out his knee in 1987.

Before every game Dick and I have about an hour to kill while the team warms-up. Today we drove around the neighborhood Dick grew up in. I found it to be very intriguing. To see the house he grew up in, where he played, the route he took to get to school, and even the house his parents lived in before he was born. (pictured below) I really enjoyed listening to the tales of his past, and more notably was watching Dick’s eyes light up as he reminisced.

It’s always fun to go back to where you were raised, it makes you appreciate what you had and also what you have.

    Good Game Andrew!!!

    congrats on your game andrew!!!
I saw the light in Dick’s eyes too when he was taking me back on our path once travelled. He sure does remember a lot more of the highlights than I do. What a memory!

This post makes me sad… My childhood house is gone – – – sold to Celebrity Homes. I can never re-visit the place where I grew up as it has been forever changed. 😦
